The apprentice will gain both technical knowledge and real practical experience, along with functional and personal skills. These are acquired through a mix of learning in the workplace, formal off-the-job training and academic study at college.
Knowledge covers the supply chain and customer base, the materials used in production, quality assurance procedures, working practices, communication and policies and procedures.
Skills include evaluating sewn product designs, creating templates and block patterns, producing prototype patterns for given designs, evaluating prototype patterns and producing final master pattern.

The apprentice will gain technical knowledge and experience in a growing industry where good technical skills are vital. The sewing machinists role is fundamental to the production process right across the fashion and textiles industry.
The apprentice will learn vital skills including workstation preparation, stitching operations, machine and workstation maintenance and carrying out instructions.The apprentice will also gain knowledge in the materials used in production, specialist sewing machines used, the production process, quality and quantity requirements, supply chain and customer base and policies and procedures.

In this part-time dress-making course you will learn how to understand and use simple patterns; thread a machine and wind a bobbin; sew seams; take measurements correctly and finish clothes beautifully. This is an ideal opportunity for both beginners and improvers to learn some essential dress-making skills.
Using your own chosen pattern and fabric, our patient tutor will teach you the basics of dressmaking, working at your own pace and developing your skills in an encouraging and inspirational environment.
Taught by experienced, highly qualified tutors who will teach you the basics of dressmaking but also the little known tricks of the trade learnt over years of sewing.
This course runs for 6 weeks and will be held on Tuesday evenings from 18:00 to 20:00. For each 6 week course, the cost is £80, to be paid at enrolment. We can take payment over the phone during the day if evening enrolment is an issue.
