Second-year T Level student Raees Mehmood is celebrating after being named placement student of the year in the North by Lloyds Banking Group.

Raees studies Business Management and Administration at Keighley College, and undertook a work placement with the bank as part of the T Level programme.

His success has led to a permanent role with Lloyds, where he works part-time at the Bradford city branch as a Customer Service Representative. Raees plans to go full-time after completing his studies at college and to develop his career with the group.

His nomination stood out among 140 placement students, where his attitude was cited as “dependable, flexible and proactive”. His award, one of two T Level student awards representing the North and South of England, also highlighted his professionalism and charisma at work- where he gained ‘‘widespread respect within the branch.”

The Lloyds Banking Group awards celebrate the excellence of graduates, trainees and students on their national T Level placement programme.

Raees said: “It feels great. The placement was eye-opening – meeting different people everyday and forging a pathway into full-time employment.”

T Levels are two-year qualifications, involving a mixture of classroom theory and industry experience. Keighley College works with employers across the Yorkshire region to match students on to placement programmes across business, health and education and childcare.

Clare Ravenscroft, Deputy Head of Department at Keighley College, said:

“Raees has excelled on the T Level course and we’re delighted to see his success recognised on placement-he’s made a fantastic impression throughout”.
