Keighley College students make the grade for an exciting future

Learners from Keighley College have been receiving their Level 3 results today with many achieving excellent grades and ready to progress onto next steps.

One student who collected their results today was T Level student, Saffron Hunt, who achieved a pass in Education and Childcare and is now going to the University of Huddersfield to study Primary Education, with the aim of becoming a SEND coach in the future.

Saffron said: “I’m so happy with my results and I got into my first choice university. A T Level is such a great course as it gives you loads of skills with the industry placement. It gives you the experience of what it’s like in the real world and I definitely feel more prepared going to university.

“The college has been so supportive with my autism and ADHD throughout my time here. I’ve been able to have access arrangements with my exams and I’ve been able to speak to them whenever anything was wrong. I don’t think I’d have passed if I hadn’t had this support.”

A level student Fatima Parvez, 18, achieved an A in Sociology, B in Law and C in Psychology, meaning she is now heading to the University of Bradford to study Law.

Fatima said: “I really didn’t think I was going to get these results so I’m very happy. I’m going to Bradford University to study Law – I have so much passion for that subject and can’t wait to get started.

“My teachers have been so supportive during my time at college and they definitely helped me get the grades that I achieved. My whole journey here has been really wholesome, I’ve met people that will be friends for life and I’ve loved my time here.”

Fellow A level student, Scarlett Rhodes, 18, was delighted to get the grades she needed to secure her place at the University of Brighton to study Psychology and Criminology. 

Scarlett, who also studied Psychology, Sociology and Law at college, said: “I’m so happy with my results as I wasn’t expecting to get these grades and I’ve got into my university of choice.

“My teachers really gave me the support and guidance that I needed as I was quite unsure what I wanted to do.

“The college has really helped with my confidence – there’s a real community here at Keighley College that has been great and I will certainly miss.”

Keighley College Principal, Kevin O’Hare, said: “Today is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements of all our learners. We are extremely proud of their results, the progress they’ve made and the hard work they have shown throughout their time at Keighley College.

“While we are well known for our vocational strengths, skilling hundreds of learners across a wide range of sectors, we are equally proud of our small but flourishing A level provision. It gives learners who may not have realised their academic potential at school, or previously seen university as an option, the opportunity to flourish, raise their ambitions and progress to higher education.”
