Apprenticeship, Level 3
  • Overview

    As an apprentice, your job role will depend on your employer and the environment they work in as caring for children can occur in a wide variety of settings.

    During this apprenticeship you will be supporting the learning and development of children as well as becoming a key worker and planning for individual children’s needs

    There will be a mixture of theoretical and practical activities to develop you throughout this course including one-to-one discussions, research tasks, videos and other interactive activities. You will attend college once a month.

    Assessment will take place via written work submitted on your electronic portfolio and practical observations carried out by your assessor. Practical competence will also be observed by your assigned mentor in the work setting.

    This course is designed for those who wish to take their childcare career to the next level.
  • Entry Requirements

    You must have a good standard of spoken and written English and preferably have grade 4 or above in GCSE English and maths.

    Applicants without required GCSEs will need to gain a minimum of high Level 1 on an initial assessment test to be considered for Support Teaching and Learning Apprenticeship Level 3.

    You will need to demonstrate that you are a responsible person with the skills and qualities needed to care for children and young people and must be employed in an education environment.

  • Units/Modules

    As part of this apprenticeship you will study the Teaching and Learning Diploma Level 3.

    You will learn about all aspects of children's care and education through theory lessons in your setting with your college assessor.

    The units you will study may include:

    • Schools as organisations
    • Supporting learning activities
    • Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in work 
    • Supporting assessment for learning

    Additionally, you will have the opportunity to develop your functional skills in English and maths ready for the workplace.

    Progression may include degree level study or relevant employment.
