Overview
There is a balance of practical and academic work with lots of opportunities for offsite visits and activities to enrich the course. We offer opportunities to work with the Police and Fire service for work experience, trips to Finland and Slovenia, and outdoor and adventurous activities.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of 4 GCSE’s at grade D including English and/or ideally Maths or equivalent (e.g. Level 1 Functional Skills), NVQ1 or satisfactory completion of a Foundation learning programme at Level 1 with a minimum of 37 credits.
All candidates must have a genuine interest in working in the emergency services or armed forces, be prepared to participate in physical activities, work in a team, overcome personal challenges and have an enthusiastic approach to learning.
If you are under 19 and you do not already have English & Maths GCSE grades A-C or equivalent, you will be required to undertake GCSE or Functional Skills alongside you main qualification.

Assessment Types
You will be assessed through coursework only; there are no exams to take.
As part of your coursework you will submit evidence of your learning, which might include videos, presentations, practical demonstrations, website design, online questionnaires and written work.

Units you will study include:
- Teamwork and communication skills
- Personal development through adventurous activities
- Improving health and fitness
You will learn about different careers and roles that you can follow and the steps you will need to take in order to achieve your career goals. You will also learn about the skills needed to compete in any modern working environment such as self-motivation and resilience.

Careers/Progression
Advice on careers and further study will be given during the course. After successful completion of the course, students may seek employment or an apprenticeship in the public sector, or apply for a Level 3 course in Public Services.
