This course is for you is you are interested in understanding how technology works: it will provide an introduction such as an understanding of how the internet, websites and computers work.

You will gain plenty of practical experience in producing basic technology systems and products.

You will also develop your employability skills and knowledge in the IT industry.

    The course is for you if you are interested in understanding how technology works, e.g. an introduction of how the internet, websites and computers work.

    You will gain plenty of practical experience in producing basic technology systems and products. Some of the units you study are database development, website development, computer graphics, digital portfolio and you will also develop your employability skills and knowledge of the IT industry.

  • Entry Requirements

    A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D including Mathematics or English, a Foundation Diploma (equivalent to 5 GCSEs at Grades D G), NVQ1 or satisfactory completion of a Foundation Learning programme at Level 1 with a minimum of 37 credits. You will be placed on the course that matches your qualifications at interview.
  • Assessment Types

    You will be assessed by a range of work; assignments, practical activities including presentations, project work and external assessments.
  • Units/Modules

    You will study the following externally assessed units:

    • The Online World
    • Technology Systems

    You will also study the following internally assessed units:

    • Digital Graphics
    • Database Development
    • A Digital Portfolio
    • Website Development

    You will also develop your functional skills in Maths and English, or study these at GCSE.

  • Benefits/Skills

    You will develop your IT skills in accordance to what skills employers look for. Communication is a key skill for all employers and something you will develop during this course.

    In addition to studying your main programme you will also develop your skills in Maths and English as required. You will also have tutorial sessions in which an Individual Learning Plan will be set and your progress monitored to ensure you reach your maximum potential.

  • Careers/Progression

    Successful completion of this course will lead to the award of a Diploma in Information Technology.

    Students who obtain a Merit grade or Distinction and pass their functional skills can then progress onto a range of level 3 qualifications at Leeds City College, including: Level 3 Diploma in Applied IT

    On successful completion of this course you will be awarded a BTEC Diploma in IT.
