  • Overview

    This course is suitable for those already working in the construction industry or wishing to enter it, having completed a suitable Level 2 programme (e.g. Level 2 Construction Diploma or Intermediate Construction award).

    The Level 3 Diploma expands the content of the Level 2 Diploma, further developing your knowledge and skills in college rather than in a working environment.

  • Entry Requirements

    You need to have successfully completed a Level 2 Site Carpentry & Joinery qualification (e.g. level 2 Construction Diploma).

    If you are under 19 and you do not already have English & Maths GCSE grades A-C or equivalent you will be required to undertake GCSE or Functional Skills alongside your main qualification.

  • Assessment Types

    Your progress is assessed throughout the year. You will develop a variety of construction skills which will be tested by practical demonstration of your competence throughout the course.

    You will also undertake written assessments and sit an online exam.

  • Units/Modules

    You will learn by a series of extended practical exercises in well equipped workshops, backed up by relevant classroom theory. You will cover the following units:

    • Carry out second fixing information, quantities and communicating with others
    • Building methods and construction technology
    • Erect complex structural carcassing components
    • Maintain non-structural and structural components
    • Set up and use fixed and transportable machinery
    • Construct a Traditional Hipped/Valley Roof with Dormer and Trimming to Chimney
  • Benefits/Skills

    The programme looks within the supervisory roles of construction, providing an insight into the management roles. Students will look at the planning and development of the construction process.
  • Careers/Progression

    You can progress on to an apprenticeship if you have an appropriate employment offer. You could also progress into Higher Education to study for a Higher National Diploma or Certificate or a Foundation Degree.
