Overview
This is a one year course giving you an introduction to all aspects of business.
It will give you the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and develop skills in the business areas such as marketing, finance, sales, recruitment and retail.
It will also support progression to a Level 3 course or an apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements
A minimum of 4 GCSE’s at Grade D including Mathematics or English, a Foundation Degree (equivalent to 5 GCSE’s at Grades D to G, NVQ1 or satisfactory completion of a Foundation learning programme at Level 1 with a minimum of 37 credits.
Some courses may require the achievement of additional specific qualifications/grades. For example, applicants to the Level 2 practical programmes may be required to demonstrate that they have the relevant skills at Level 1.

Assessment Types
Two of the units on the Business Certificate are externally set and marked, as indicated. The rest of the units are internally assessed.
The English and Maths assessments are externally set and marked.

Units/Modules
You will study 3 mandatory units:
- Enterprise in the Business World
- Finance for Business (externally assessed)
- Principles of Marketing (externally assessed)
You will also study a range of internally assessed units such as:
- Promoting a Brand
- Principles of Customer Service
- Building Successful Teams
- Business Online
You will also develop your functional skills in English and Maths, or study these at GCSE.

Benefits/Skills
On this course, you will develop the study skills to enable you to progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Business.
If you wish to enter employment on completion, you will gain many skills which will be desirable to employers, such as finance, team working, and communication. These all make you a more attractive candidate to prospective employers.
You will also develop your IT skills, along with communication and employability skills.

Careers/Progression
Students who obtain a Level 2 Merit grade or Distinction and pass their functional skills / GCSE’s may progress on to one of a range of Level 3 qualifications including the Level 3 Diploma in Business.
The course provides students with the skills, knowledge and understanding for Level 2 learners to progress to:
- Other Level 2 vocational qualificationsLevel 3 qualifications, such as the Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Nationals in Business
- A business related apprenticeship
- Academic qualifications, such as GCSE or GCE in Business
- Employment within a related industry
Learners who achieve the qualification at Level 1 may progress to another BTEC Level 2 qualification or to academic or other vocational Level 2 qualifications.
