Overview
A level English Language explores how language has evolved over the centuries, how we learn it and how it is used. Through analysis of different texts you will explore the richness of the English language, develop your writing skills and learn how to adapt text to different mediums.
Exploring the history of the language, you will learn how English has changed since its origin in around 500 AD. The study of gender, accent and dialect, as well as conversations generated by modern technology, will enhance your understanding of how language has developed. Looking at the works of renowned linguists such as Noam Chomsky and B.F. Skinner, you will study language acquisition, focusing on how children learn to speak, read and write
Studying English Language will not only improve your written confidence but will develop your ability to critically analyse texts, skills which will have a positive benefit across all your subjects and for further study.

Entry Requirements
Five GCSEs at grade 9-4, including English and maths. -
Careers/Progression
With A level English Language, you will find you can study a wide range of subjects at university. The transferable skills developed at A level make this an attractive qualification to universities and employers alike.
University study could range from the humanities to social sciences, while career areas include journalism, creative writing and marketing, to name a few.
