What is Safeguarding?

At Keighley College we are committed to doing everything we can to make sure all of our students and staff are kept safe and protected from harm. This is what safeguarding is all about. The government provides statutory guidance to Colleges on what they need to do to achieve this. We adhere to all guidance and pride ourselves on going above and beyond to make our College a safe, happy and thriving environment for all. It is important to us that all College users are treated with respect and dignity and feel safe and listened to. In a recent survey, 98% of our students said they felt safe in college.

What do we do as College?
  • Have a clear policy and procedures in place
  • A trained team of designated officers
  • Make sure all of our staff working for, or on behalf of the College, are suitable to work with young people carrying out all the relevant checks
  • Actively encourage students and staff to raise any concerns they have
  • Take all concerns seriously, act upon them, and offer full support both through College and specialist services
  • Train all of our staff in safeguarding at a level appropriate to their role on an ongoing basis
  • Deliver sessions in tutorial time covering a range of subject’s areas around safeguarding
How do you report a concern?

If you are worried about yourself or someone you know in College, please speak to any member of staff. They will ensure you get the help and support you need from a specialist member of staff or email safeguarding@keighleycollege.ac.uk
