This Level 2 qualification provides learners with the skills and knowledge necessary to plan, deliver and evaluate safe and effective fitness instruction sessions though gym-based exercise.

Learners successfully completing this qualification will be able to gain access to the Register of Exercise Professionals (REP’s) at Level 2.

We also offer opportunities for work experience in Finland and Slovenia and outdoor adventurous activities such as caving and rock climbing.

Below are examples of the units you will study:

  • Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise
  • Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity
  • Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
  • Principles of exercise, fitness and health
  • Planning gym-based exercise
  • Instructing gym-based exercise
  • Nutrition for health and performance

Working in the fitness industry requires good interpersonal skills including effective communication and coaching, group management, leadership and motivational speaking; these skills will also be developed through the programme.

Students will also complete a significant work placement of over 60 hours in an appropriate gym facility agreed by the college.

You will develop a wide range of skills that will benefit you in a career in fitness. These will include communication, organisation, leadership, teamwork, presenting, researching, customer service and emergency first aid. Applicants must be willing to work flexibly with their placement in order to achieve their wok experience hours. this course will provide you with the professional qualification to complement your existing fitness and gym skills.

Students on this course may not have achieved a grade 4-9 in GCSE English or Maths, so they will do either a GCSE resit or Functional Skills to help them achieve a grade 4-9.

Written reports, presentation, video evidence, interviews, blog and diary entries, practical demonstrations.

Through the use of Google Classroom and apps you will easily access the resources available to help you through your course and be able to complete assignments simply.

The course is delivered at Keighley College in the classroom, Gym and through work placement. Ideally you will already have a Gym where you can work to gain the experience and evidence necessary to complete the qualification. you will also be able to access your classes and resources online to help you to complete the course successfully.

A minimum of 4 GCSE’s at grade D including English and/or Maths ideally or equivalent (e.g. Level 1 Functional Skills), or satisfactory completion of a Foundation Learning programme at Level 1 with a minimum of 37 credits.
All applicants must have a genuine interest in working in the fitness industry, be prepared to participate in physical activities, work in a team, overcome personal challenges and have an enthusiastic approach to learning.
