Over a one year course you will develop a range of practical skills and theoretical knowledge in the areas of teamwork, communication and leadership. Many students who enjoy and successfully complete this course progress onto the L2 Public Services or Sports courses. Please note that any student not achieving a Level 4 in GCSE Maths/English will resit these GCSEs alongside their main college course/s.

Mandatory units:

  1. Investigate Employment Opportunities in the Uniformed Services
  2. Well-Being and Physical Fitness for the Uniformed Services
  3. Team Working Skills in the Uniformed Services
  4. Developing Self-Discipline for the Uniformed Services
  5. Health and Safety in the Uniformed Services

Optional units:

  1. Carry Out Map Reading and Navigation
  2. Participate in Competitive Sport
  3. Participate in an Adventurous Activity
  4. Explore Volunteering and Volunteering Opportunities

 

This qualification aims to provide informed and prepared potential recruits. It will enable learners to prepare to make a recruitment application or provide a basis for further study and progression towards the entry qualification of a specific service. It provides learners with an insight into the practical qualities they require, not only for uniformed services, but also for employment in general.

 

Assessment will be a blend of practical and classroom activities.

Classrooms, Outdoors, Virtual, online and Employers (Work Experience).

Entry requirements are two GCSEs at grades 2 or above or equivalent (to include English or maths), or any one of the following, an Entry 3 qualification, a Certificate in Skills for Working Life or Life Skills, an ESOL Entry Level 3 qualification.

Successful completion of the Level 1 Certificate in Public Services along with a good attendance record and positive reference from your tutor could lead to progression on to a Level 2 course In Sports or Public Services, Apprenticeship, employment or to a career in the Armed Forces or other industries.
