A practical and portfolio theory based motor vehicle course giving skills and insight into light vehicle technology.

This introduction to the motor vehicle sector will prepare you for a career in the industry. A small part of this course includes some further engineering technologies.
Units of work to achieve are as follows:
- Health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment
- Machining Engineering materials & equipment
- Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG/MAG)
- Engine liquid cooling and engine lubrication systems
- Spark ignition power units
- Vehicle braking systems
- Vehicle wheels and tyres
- Vehicle exhaust systems
Students will develop an understanding of the operating principles and workings of a light motor vehicle.
The skills and knowledge gained from this course will enable students to progress to Level 2 Motor Vehicle courses. Students must complete successfully on this course if they wish to progress their studies.
You will be assessed through workshop assessment and by creating a portfolio of evidence, with unit end test.
Theory is taught in classrooms whilst practical lessons take place in our purpose built, state of the art College Motor Vehicle Workshops.
We look for passion in in the sector above all else. If you are under 19 and you do not have English & Maths GCSE grades A-C or equivalent, you will be required to undertake GCSE or Functional Skills alongside the main qualification.
Upon completion of the certificate, progression is possible to Level 2 Motor Vehicle Studies – light vehicle or body repair. Alternatively, you may wish to start an apprenticeship.
