OverviewThis course is designed to develop the basic skills and knowledge of carpentry and joinery. Throughout the duration of the course, the focus will be on developing the hand skills and joinery knowledge to progress onto a level 2 course or apprenticeship.
There are no formal entry requirements but applicants must have a commitment to learning. You will be interviewed for your suitability.
If you are under 19 and you do not already have English & Maths GCSE grades 9-4 or equivalent you will be required to undertake GCSE or Functional Skills alongside your main qualification.
Your progress is assessed throughout the year. You will develop a variety of construction skills which will be tested by practical demonstration of your competence throughout the course.
You will also undertake a theory assessment.
Units you will undertake are:
- Introduction to Health and Safety in Construction
- Tee Halving Joints
- Mortise and Tenon Joints
You may also be required to attend GCSE English and maths.
