This course is suited to students who have mild learning difficulties or disabilities. High levels of pastoral and education support are provided.

The students who chose Living and Working are developing skills that increase their level of independence. Typically they aspire to live independently, perhaps with some support, and to secure either voluntary or paid work.

Progress is highly personalised and learning activities are designed to enable each student to work towards individualised targets that are meaningful to him/her and in keeping with his or her goals and aspirations. Learning activities tend to be practical and the emphasis is on enjoyment. English and maths skills are embedded into learning activities so learners can develop these skills in a functional way. Where appropriate, learners can gain English and maths qualifications.

Learners develop their work skills in various college-based enterprises and it is expected that learners will gain experience in an external work placement/volunteer job. In some cases, learners will be able to apply for Supported Internships following this course.

The course is designed for students aged sixteen or over and can last up to three years. Progression is either onto a mainstream course or into paid/voluntary employment, or onto a Supported Internship.

Your progress is assessed throughout the year.

Classrooms and other college/community provisions.

All students continue with their English and maths, this may be at a functional skills or at a GCSE level, as appropriate.

Progression is either onto a mainstream course, into paid/voluntary employment, or on to a Supported Internship.
