Childcare and Education (EYE) Technical Certificate/Diploma | Level 3

This two year course is aimed at people who want to work with children and young people. It is a full time course aimed at 19+ learners. It is suitable for those who wish to complete work placement, are in employment or working in voluntary placements.
  • Overview

    This course develops the wide ranging knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years old.

    It is ideal for those who have already had a placement or experience in a childcare setting and are therefore confident in working with children. For those students who have not had successful work experience with children then the Level 2 programme is a more suitable starting point.

  • Entry Requirements

    Most applicants will need 4 GCSE’s at Grade C, with ideally English and Maths at Grade C, a Higher Diploma (which is equivalent to 7 GCSE’s at Grade A*-C), NVQ2 or Level 2 Diploma to Merit Grade with ideally English and/or Maths at minimum Grade C or equivalent (Level 2 Functional Skills.

    We would also take into account prior experience and general suitability for working in this sector. All applicants must have a successful interview and a satisfactory reference. You should have a positive work experience report to start on Level 3.

    All candidates must be committed to working with young children and their families, be creative, energetic, have a sense of humour and a lively and outgoing personality.

    To work with children (under 18) or vulnerable adults, students may need to complete an enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) The college will arrange this for you but if your course is not fully funded (i.e. you are aged 16-18 or on certain benefits) then you will have to pay. The estimated cost of the DBS check is £51.50. Full details regarding payment documents will be provided prior to enrolment.

    Due to Statutory Guidelines. If you will be undertaking placements involving caring for children aged under 8, you will need to complete a Disqualifications Requirements questionnaire for yourself and other members of your household. This will be discussed further with you at your interview.

  • Assessment Types

    Assessment takes place through a range of methods which include written assignments, reports, presentations, evidence of work done on placement, witness testimonies and reflections. You will also be observed in your work placement as well as having gained 750 hours’ placement over the 2 years: and take part in professional discussions with your tutor.
  • Units/Modules

    Our Level 3 Childcare course prepares you to work in a range of settings with children or young people or to progress to Higher Education. You will learn through taught classes and activities and a range of work experience placements. You will study a wide range of subjects including child development, care, play and growth. You will also have the opportunities to work in the industry and develop your communication skills to prepare you for employment.

    After the course you can either progress through the levels to Degree level, onto an Apprenticeship or find employment in the childcare sector, including early years’ educator, nursery assistant and special needs assistant.

    The course provides a wide range of taught modules ranging from communication, understanding child and young person development, safeguarding, working together, professional practice in an early years setting and more.

    You will develop skills to care for others and the responsibilities of working as a professional in a caring environment.
  • Careers/Progression

    On completion learners can progress to Level 3 Diploma Early Years Education & Care. Students may also progress onto the Extended Diploma which is a further 1 year of study which can lead to Higher Education.
