Overview
The Level 3 Technical Certificate in Health and Social Care is the equivalent of 1.5 A Levels (maximum 84 UCAS points). You will learn through taught classes and activities, individual study, work experience and possibly a residential visit. -
Entry Requirements
All candidates must be committed to working in the Health and Social Care Sector, be caring, creative and energetic, have a sense of humour and a lively and outgoing personality.
Applicants will need 5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above including English, Maths and Science, or a Higher Diploma (which is equivalent to 7 GCSE’s A*-C), or NVQ 2 or Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care to Merit grade with ideally English and/or Maths at minimum grade or equivalent (such as Level 2 Functional Skills).
We would also take into account prior experience and general suitability for working in this sector. All applicants must have a successful interview and a satisfactory reference. You should also have a positive work experience report to start on Level 3.
To work with children (under 18) and vulnerable adults, students may need to complete an enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB). The college will work with you to apply for this. The estimated cost is £51.50, but if you are entitled to a bursary, you may not need to pay. Full details regarding payment and documents required will be provided prior to enrolment.
Due to Statutory Guidance, if you will be undertaking placements involving caring for children under 8, you will need to complete a Disqualifications Requirements questionnaire for yourself and other members of your household. This will be discussed further with you at your interview.

Assessment Types
You will be assessed through case studies, controlled assessment, written and video-recorded assignments as well as practical work experience in a care setting (75 hours).
Work placement hours will be allocated within the structured timetable where students will be on placement one day a week.

Units/Modules
Throughout the academic year, you will study 9 units which will be internally moderated by your course tutor. In addition to this, you will complete a controlled assessment, which is externally moderated by the awarding body (NCFE Cache). This is a synoptic assessment which will cover the mandatory units.

- HSC1 – Synoptic Assessment (external assessment – 20 hours controlled)
