CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Childcare and Education

If you are interested in working with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age, then this could be the course for you!
  • Overview

    The programme enables you to work in a supervised role as an assistant in a pre-school, children’s centre, day nursery, school setting. You will undertake work placement as part of your course to gain the practice skills required when working with children and young people.
  • Entry Requirements

    Most applicants will need a minimum of 4 GCSE’s at Grade D including Maths and/or English, satisfactory completion of a foundation learning programme at Level 1 with a minimum of 37 credits.

    All candidates must be committed to working with young children and their families, be creative, energetic, have a sense of humour and a lively and outgoing personality.

    To work with children (under 18) or vulnerable adults, students may need to complete an enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) The college will arrange this for you but if your course is not fully funded (i.e. you are aged 16-18 or on certain benefits) then you will have to pay. The estimated cost of the DBS check is £54. Full details regarding payment documents will be provided prior to enrolment.

    Due to Statutory Guidelines. If you will be undertaking placements involving caring for children aged under 8, you will need to complete a Disqualifications Requirements questionnaire for yourself and other members of your household. This will be discussed further with you at your interview.

  • Assessment Types

    You will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence which will include a variety of assessment methods like written assignments, reports, presentations, evidence of work done on placement, witness testimonies and reflections. You will also be observed in your work placement and take part in professional discussions with your tutor.
  • Units/Modules

    Our Level 3 course prepares you to work in a range of setting with children or young people from birth to 8 years or to progress onto higher education.

    You will study a wide range of subjects including child development, care, play and growth.

    You will also have opportunities to work in the industry and develop your communication skills to prepare you for employment.

  • Benefits/Skills

    You can build the knowledge and skills needed to when working with children and young people from birth up to 19 years. On completion learners will be able to work under guidance, in a wide range of job roles within the childcare sector. You will also develop your interpersonal skills as well as English and Maths.
  • Careers/Progression

    On completion, learners can progress onto the Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education, or they may wish to progress through the levels with an Apprenticeship. Alternatively students could find employment in the childcare sector, including early years educator, assistants within a nursery or Children’s Centre, or a special needs assistant.
