Engineering
Keighley College has created a unique Industrial Centre of Excellence for Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering. The centre provides education and training opportunities to prepare young people to progress into the growing engineering and manufacturing economy, where there is increasing demand for young people. The fully equipped on-site workshop was launched in January 2015 and includes high quality industry standard Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machinery, lathes, milling machines, state-of-the-art computer aided design, 3D Printing and other innovative engineering equipment to develop and support the skills required for engineers of the future.
The Centre has a board of local employers who oversee the development of the centre and the courses it delivers. The board currently consists of; Byworth Boilers Ltd, Airedale Springs Ltd, Advanced Actuators Ltd, Keighley Laboratories Ltd, Metalcraft Ltd, Gesipa Ltd, Acorn Stairlifts Ltd and Carnaud Metalbox. These employers also contribute by providing work experience opportunities and real life project scenarios to help young people to better prepare for the world of work. Employers have the opportunity to shape the future of young learners by providing ‘master classes’, offering mentoring opportunities and providing site visits.
