A practical and portfolio theory based motor vehicle course designed to give you skills and insight into light vehicle technology.
The Level 1 Motor Vehicle course is aimed at introducing students to skills and techniques to enable them to progress onto higher levels.

This introduction in to the motor vehicle sector will prepare you for a career in the industry. You will cover units including health and safety, removing and replacing components, fault detection and repairing tyres.
Students also work towards gaining qualifications in literacy and numeracy, with extra support available where needed.
Options to progress following completion of this course are Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle, or Level 2 Certificate in Body Repair.

- Health & Safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment
- Engineering equipment and materials
- Engine liquid cooling and lubrication systems
- Spark ignition power units
- Battery and lighting systems
- Vehicle braking systems
- Vehicle wheels and tyres
- Vehicle exhaust systems
- Vehicle valeting
Students will develop an understanding of the operating principles and workings of a light motor vehicle.
The skills and knowledge gained from this course will enable students to progress to Level 2 Motor Vehicle courses. Students must complete successfully on this course if they wish to progress their studies.
You will be assessed on your practical ability and understanding using a range of tasks set by the awarding body, workshop assessment, a portfolio of evidence and a unit end test.

We look for passion in the sector above all else. If you are under 19 and you do not already have English & Maths GCSE grades A-C or equivalent you will be required to undertake GCSE or Functional Skills.
Progression to Level 2 Motor Vehicle Studies – light vehicle or body repair. Alternatively, you may wish to start an apprenticeship.
