Fashion & Textiles Level 1 (ABC) Sewing and Textiles

Due to our new purpose-built Textile Academy, we are able to offer courses relating to the fashion and textiles industry. There are currently two qualifications which can be undertaken relating to Fashion and Textile running this year, with the potential for more in the near future.

This course provides learners with specialist and transferable skills, engages them with current industry practice, and prepares them to progress onto further qualifications or employment opportunities. Learners will complete this qualification with a concrete understanding of some of the following:
Soft Furnishing, Surface Patterning, Industrial Garment Construction, and more.

The Award requires a total of 12 credits from the following options:

  • Design principles in the fashion and textile industry
  • industrial sewing operations
  • Using industrial sewing machinery
  • Introduction to finishing procedures for sewn products
  • Quality of a sewn product
  • Health & Safety in a workshop

The Certificate requires a total of 24 credits from the following options:

  • Pattern Construction
  • Garment Construction Craft
  • Upholstery
  • Fabric Inspection
  • Fabric Laying
  • Industrial apparel machine maintenance

(Credit numbers vary dependent on selected options.)

You will grow in confidence and learn practical yet transferable skills such as sewing by hand or machine. You can continue your work and learning at home easily!

Leaners are assessed via a Portfolio of Evidence that learners will work to during the duration of their course. The qualification is graded a Pass or Fail only.

Keighley College, Textile Academy

These qualifications are designed for young people aged 16+ who are looking for an introductory vocational qualification for progression into higher education or employment.

The opportunity to progress onto the next level of qualification in Fashion and Textiles, or onto the Creative Skillset Fashion and Textiles Apprenticeships.
