The EAL Level 2 in Engineering is an exciting course that gives you the chance to learn how to use different types of machinery that are in common use in the workplace.

You will gain the knowledge and experience required when starting out on your journey to a career in engineering. During the course you will be using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software to produce engineering drawings, produce products in the workshop using lathes and bench skills, as well as studying the principles of engineering science and materials.

The course consists of a minimum of six units; 3 mandatory and 3 optional studied over the course of 1 year including:

  • Engineering Environmental Awareness (M)
  • Engineering Techniques (M)
  • Engineering Principles (M)
  • Plus 3 optional units

Manual Machining Techniques using Lathes

Producing Engineering Drawings using a CAD system

Managing and controlling an engineered product

N.B. Additional units may be offered subject to numbers.

You will be required to undertake and complete:

  • Training tasks
  • Practical competence tests
  • Portfolio of work
  • Knowledge tests

A combination of workshop style, hands on and taught classroom sessions using industry standard equipment, lab & mechanical workshop, purpose-built facilities.

(You will be required to provide your own PPE for workshop tasks, including boots, overalls and safety glasses.)

Successful completion of the Performing Engineering Operations at Level 2; alternatively a good standard of education with 4 GCSE passes, to include Maths, English and a science based subject at grade 3 (D) or above.
The above programme is ideally suited to students who wish to develop both practical skills and technical knowledge and have an enthusiasm for engineering.
On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded the Intermediate Certificate in Engineering Technology. This is a level 2 qualification & can be used as the technical element of the foundation/intermediate modern apprenticeship framework.

On successful completion of this qualification you can progress onto:

  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering
  • Employment within the engineering sector
  • An Advanced Apprenticeship in Engineering
